Support Services

Parenting is really hard.

This page lists some support services that are available in Australia.

If you have come to this page then you probably want some help. Don’t put it off – call somebody.

Lifeline Australia: 13 11 14

If you feel like you are going to hurt yourself or somebody else, call Lifeline.

Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636

These folks provide telephone counselling and support 24/7. They try to help anybody who is feeling depressed or anxious.

Relationships Australia: 1300 364 277

Looking after kids can take all the fun out of grown up relationships. You can both get angry at each other and wonder why you ever had sex in the first place or if you ever will again. Don’t let it break you up! Call Relationships Australia.

Mens Line: 1300 78 99 78

These guys (and girls) offer counselling over the phone to men. They know how men feel and what problems men can have. They’re also good at helping men to sort their problems out. They’re available 24/7.

Australian Breastfeeding Association: 1800 686 268

These wonderful ladies volunteer their time to help you when breastfeeding just isn’t working.

Being on hold :-/

When you’re feeling really bad, the last thing you want is to be put on hold. You don’t want recorded messages about privacy policies or shitty music or pre-recorded voices that sound happy, you want to talk to somebody!

Just hang in there. They know. They just can’t talk to you yet but they will. Don’t give up now. You’ve called for a reason and that reason won’t go away if you hang up. You’ll be glad you stuck it out.
